Score! Hero – Kicking Into Strategy On iOS

Soccer is a sport that is in constant motion, and there are a lot of iOS soccer games that try to depict the 11 on 11 action on the entire field. Score Hero is a new iOS soccer game that focuses on the strategy of soccer by focusing the action on the ball. Rather than using virtual joysticks and buttons to dribble, pass, and shoot the ball, Score! Hero is all about contemplative touch controls. Score Hero download turns soccer into a puzzle game, so that the action freezes at key moments, and then you draw paths to direct the ball.

Score Hero

There will always be room for soccer simulation games, but that doesn’t mean a new puzzle twist isn’t an interesting new option. Score! Hero provides a whole new way to play soccer that requires you to think about the position of other players, the trajectory of the ball, and the progression towards the goal. There are over 200 levels included with each one offering specific scenarios, rather than complete matches. For instance, you can be thrown into a two goal deficit, and your team has a corner kick. Your goal in this scenario is to draw a path to one of your players, and then the animation will ensue until that player has the ball, and then you draw a path for the ball to avoid the keeper and hit the back of the net.

Score Hero requires more thought than quick action, so you will want to take into account each factor of every shot. Players only have a certain cone of vision, and you need to recognize the flow of the other players to try to put a ball into proper position. The most important thing is that you’re not swiping to kick, and instead want to draw the path right to where you want the ball to go, kind of like Flight Control. The path drawing lets you lead your players, as well as bend your kicks, so that you can get a feel for the strategy of soccer. There’s a great 3D graphics engine to depict the soccer action, and it’s especially great to see successful shots with included replays. The game is free to play with a heart meter that depletes with every mistake, and Hero Bux in-app currency that you can use to rewind a given level right before a mistake. You can burn through bucks and energy quickly, and it can be frustrating to not be able to play more without spending on consumable currency.

Score! Hero (Free, Universal) is an all new way to play soccer that kicks the strategy elements of the sport into high gear making it well worth picking up.

How to play Score! Hero to be the football hero

Not all football (okay, soccer to some of you) fans are fond of playing mobile football games. Sometimes, the controls and mechanics are too complicated, when all you want to do is just watch a game. But what if there was a game that will involve you doing a bit of playing but also will just let you watch your game unfold? Score! Hero from First Touch Games may be the game that you’re looking for, if that’s the case.

Even if you don’t know a lot about the beautiful game and are just interested in playing one, then this game will also be interesting for you, as well as helpful in understanding the game. Unlike most of the big football games wherein you play full matches, this just brings you in specific game scenarios. You will draw the path to the goal you want to make or even the pass that you want to make to your teammates, before trying to make the final score. It sounds simple but it sometimes is difficult, and you’d have to repeat the level over if you fail to be the score hero.

Score Hero

You also get to see your character make it or break it during the season. You will start out as a rookie and then try to get yourself in the good graces of the coach and the fans by, what else, scoring goals. You have more than 200 levels to work your way up the football ladder. You also get to customize your character, from the name to the outfit to the hairdo, etc. You also get to win trophies and awards, change clubs if you want to, and basically just build a career within the football game universe.

Score Hero game is another winner from First Touch Games

First Touch Games is known for their successful soccer games available for Android devices. Their games have good graphics, easy controls, and are generally quite fun to play. Score! Hero is their latest game. If you enjoy soccer/football, then you will enjoy playing Score! Hero.

What I like about Score Hero is that you don’t have to know a lot about Soccer to enjoy the game. If you are a soccer enthusiast, you may find the game a bit limiting. If you give the game a chance, you will find out that the game is well-polished, enjoyable, and great when it comes to integrating your character into the game, which I applaud.

Score! Hero, like some of the other First Touch Games, puts you in certain game scenarios. You won’t be playing full games here, and that is part of what makes the game fun. You can hop right into it and play a level or two, while waiting at the doctor’s office, or during your lunch break. If you are a busy person like I am, you appreciate being able to get some quick gaming in, and getting back to your other tasks.

The controls in Score! Hero are perfect for mobile devices. You simply draw the path to the goal, or your other teammates. It typically results in drawing three or four paths , as you pass the ball to your teammates before making the final score. While drawing the paths are not too terribly difficult, sometimes, scoring a goal is. This is where the challenge comes in. Whether you are attempting a free kick, or trying to bend shots into the top corner of the goal, you have to draw that line precisely to be successful. Most of the time it works quite well, and other times, you may be repeating the level a few times.

What is really impressive about the game is the integration of your character into the season. You start off as a rookie and work your way up. After giving your character a name, prepare to follow him throughout the 200 plus levels. I have played First Touch Games before, so I expected there would be plenty of content. However, I had forgotten how neat it is to see your character’s name and likeness show up in the news stories that surrounded your latest heroics.

Each level begins with where your club is in the season. After you have proven yourself, the coach gives you the opportunity to play more. The players take the field and the game begins. You see your team running up the field and the action stops. From there, you have to determine where you are going to pass the ball next. There are a few options, but most of the time, there is a star above the player’s head that you are supposed to pass the ball to. Expect plenty of defenders to be lurking by. After you have drawn the path to your next player, the game goes back into viewing mode, where you see the results of your actions. It really makes the game more immersive. You continue to pass the ball until you are ready to take the shot. There are three different goals that you are expected to obtain in each level. This is the equivalent of three starring each level, that is popular with most games. If you are successful, you get a star with each accomplishment. Stars allow you to unlock other seasons.

Score Hero android is a free-to-play game. I have not found the free-to-play mechanic to be a problem with this game. If you are successful with achieving the goals in each level, you are given stars and bucks. Bucks are used for rewinding game play to try to take another shot, or, they are used to customize your character with different hair styles, shoes, etc. There is the equivalent of an in-game energy meter using hearts. There are five hearts. Each heart is broken up into four sections, meaning each section is a life. Basically that equates to twenty lives. If you miss a shot to a goal or passing to one of your teammates, you lose a life. This is where that handy rewind feature comes in. You have the option of reversing time and trying your shot again. It takes bucks to do that though. Over time, the hearts replenish. That takes longer than I like, but out of all the things that could go wrong with a free-to-play game, this isn’t the worst thing that could happen. As I mentioned earlier, I don’t have long stretches of time when I can game, so that works out for me.

Score! Hero is integrated with Google Game Play Services, and includes leaderboards and 68 achievements to unlock. If you enjoy using FaceBook, the game provides that integration as well. Unlike Google Play Services, it doesn’t appear to let you control what content the game gets access to, like your friends list. It may not be functioning properly, because it looks like that is an option, but I couldn’t get it to work.

You can download Score! Hero from the Google Play Store for free. There are in-app purchases available, should you want to buy items and additional content with real-world money.

Score Hero review

Available on iOS

If you want to grow a beard in Score! Hero, it'll cost you $5. That's the modern reality of free-to-play video games: if you want to be bog standard, clean shaven and ordinary, you can play without parting with cash, but if you want to inject some personality into your play and unlock all the bells and whistles, you're going to open up your wallet, virtual or otherwise.

Score-Hero21

To be fair to the latest version of Score! Hero, that $5 can be (and readily is) earned through play and, indeed, from a purely structural level, the way the game's swipe-based gameplay has been married with an energy system and in-app purchases actually works rather well. This is a sports simulation broken down into bite-sized nuggets of play, where you can beat Bayern Munich in 30 seconds or, if fate deems it it to be the case, lose by three or four goals to the German giants just as quickly.

It's important to point out, in fact, that Score! Hero is played out almost entirely on rails. Every match of football you take part in, every single result, is already determined before the first whistle has even been blown, yet developer First Touch Games still manages to make you feel entirely invested in the action as you guide your player from reserve team obscurity up through the ranks to become a global superstar.

Score-Hero
Doing so is just a matter of swiping. Like the original Score!, which charged you with recreating famous goals move by move, your sole input is to draw a line on the screen from the player in possession of the ball to where you'd like the ball to go. As soon as you're done swiping, the game kicks into action, replicating your input with how the ball might travel in a real match. Successfully make a pass and the game will switch to the new man in possession, and you'll then be charged with making your next move.

Unlike the original Score! release, there's a certain amount of fluidity in just how these little snippets of action progress. It's entirely possible – and often preferable for pure entertainment reasons – to pass the ball to any of the players within range rather than the most obvious one, and while Score! Hero has a script prepared for every eventuality, there's a certain amount of satisfaction that blooms from making a successful play in an unexpected way, shooting and scoring from way, way out or, conversely, piecing together and intricate passing move when taking a shot appears to be the most straightforward course of action.

Things can, of course, go wrong, and when you make a pass that doesn't come off, you're presented with two options; you can either use one of your aforementioned dollars (amassed automatically from successful stages or from watching video ads) to rewind the last pass or shot you made, or you can simply let the game take you back to the start of the match, which itself drains some energy from your meter.

In early stages, it matters not just which you opt for. Dollars build up quite easily and the opening matches and most of the moves you're charged with making are simple to pull off. The more difficult the game gets, however, with moves comprised of a whole host of different passes, the more likely you are to drain all your life just on one match. It's here that players have to decide whether to part with some real cash or not, but for those who don't, waiting 15 minutes or so for the energy to start to build back up again is no great challenge.

Perhaps more confusing for many players, however, is that the scripted nature of all of the games in Score Hero means that there are many matches you simply won't win. Tracking your career from one club to the next, Score! Hero manages to convey the highs and lows of your average football club (and your player's role within it) with just a few headlines before each match and some intentionally succinct commentary as the players stride onto the pitch, all enabling it to paint a surprisingly detailed picture.

Piece all these elements together and you have a football game that, arguably more so than your FIFAs and your Pro Evos, gives a glimpse into the world of your average up and coming footballer, delivering a simple control method wrapped up in matches perfectly packaged for the mobile generation. Just get saving up those dollars if you want to grow a beard for your starring role on the pitch.

Verdict

Though play is kept to a series of simple swipes, Score Hero download manages to convey the peaks and troughs of a footballer's entire career, from unglamorous beginnings to the very heights of the sport all via short and sharp matches made up of just a few moves within each game. Broken down into small slices of action, Score Hero arguably offers a more authentic take on football than FIFA or Pro Evo.
